Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 9 Sep 2026, published 10 Sep 2026, reports 99 new confirmed cases and 39 deaths. 99 cases is above the seven-day average of 85.7 a day. No new health zone since 4 Sep 2026: the outbreak remains in 61 zones across 6 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 6,942 confirmed cases and 3,349 deaths: 48.2% of patients have died. 1,647 people have recovered. 36 more than the day before. 823 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 85.7 cases and 39.6 deaths a day, against 78.3 cases and 40.9 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 47 of the 99 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 46 and Haut-Uélé with 6. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 45 of these 99 cases: Mangala 12, Beni 10, Katwa 9, Mabalako 8 and Lolwa 6. 50 of the 61 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 11 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 39 deaths reported today, 29 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 10 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 14 in Nord-Kivu, 13 in Ituri and 2 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 7 in Ituri, 2 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. The 7 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 408 deaths before them.
04The response
1,941 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,666 were checked and 386 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 496 samples tested in the laboratory, 99 were positive, that is 20.0 %. This share reaches 33.1 % in Nord-Kivu. 84.4 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres are 58.8 % full: 805 patients for 1,368 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 291 patients for 220 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 139 deaths reported, 117 burials carried out, 65 bodies tested. Around new cases, 71 prevention rings were set up out of 131 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 2,279 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 1,779 in Tshopo and 500 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 5 Sep 2026). At control points on roads and at borders, 270,138 travellers passed through and 98.2 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, the treatment centres of Nizi, Mambasa, Lolwa, Kilo, Mangala and Mandima remain full on the suspected-case side and 30 patients are in critical condition; 24 prevention rings were opened out of 77 expected, disinfection teams are lacking in Mangala and Komanda, transport in Bambu, Mandima and Mangala, supplies in Mandima, and refusals of safe burial are reported in Bunia, Nizi, Nia-Nia and Aru; the Avakubi control point remains closed because of insecurity and the staff of four posts (Nzebi, Galay, Base Yedi and Marabo) are still on strike over unpaid wages; only 13 health zones out of 36 know the mechanism for reporting sexual abuse. Contact follow-up is below the threshold in 4 provinces out of 5. In Nord-Kivu, disinfection teams still need to be activated and trained in Biena, Masereka, Kyondo, Mabalako and Vuhovi, some homes due for disinfection cannot be traced and the teams lack vehicles; a confirmed patient fled in Masereka and a family in Munzambaye, in the Butembo zone, refuses the disinfection of its home; the security team has no permanent vehicle; psychosocial support does not reach the latest cases in nine zones and 10 zones have no crèche. In Tshopo, teams were attacked in Bethsaïda, in the Mangobo zone, amid rumours of “Ebola business”, 11 contacts refuse follow-up in Matete, safe blood is lacking, the incinerator of the Makiso-Kisangani hospital is still broken, vaccination received only 4,500 doses out of 11,000 requested and the Bafwasende site is not open. In Haut-Uélé, the Pawa centre lacks hygiene facilities and the Isiro centre lacks space, water and electricity; 4 control posts out of 11 have no internet; in Tely, a family still refuses to be counted, and a rumour that patients are locked up under the tents of the Isiro hospital is circulating. In Sud-Kivu, 5 control posts out of 9 reported. In Bas-Uélé, still no treatment centre or ambulance, no report from the control posts, and the Ervebo vaccine shortage in Buta suspends vaccination.
