Today's figures

79 new cases, 29 deaths

The bulletin of 12 Oct 2026, published 13 Oct 2026, reports 79 new confirmed cases and 29 deaths. 79 cases is above the seven-day average of 68.4 a day. No new health zone since 8 Oct 2026: the outbreak remains in 65 zones across 7 provinces.

Since the outbreak began, 9,144 confirmed cases and 4,410 deaths: 48.2% of patients have died. 2,418 people have recovered. 29 more than the day before. 899 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 68.4 cases and 33.1 deaths a day, against 70.6 cases and 32.0 deaths the week before.

02 Where

Ituri accounts for 40 of the 79 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 27, Haut-Uélé with 8 and Tshopo with 4. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 50 of these 79 cases: Bunia 16, Beni 13, Mandima 11, Wamba 6 and Musienene 4. 50 of the 65 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 15 reported none.

03 Deaths

Of the 29 deaths reported today, 18 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 11 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 10 in Ituri, 7 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 8 in Ituri and 3 in Nord-Kivu.

04 The response

3,100 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 3,047 were checked and 522 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Ubangi did not send its figures. Of 449 samples tested in the laboratory, 79 were positive, that is 17.6 %. 77.6 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Nord-Kivu. Ebola treatment centres hold 56 patients per 100 beds: 885 patients for 1,594 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 445 patients for 374 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 151 burials carried out and 146 bodies tested. The 59 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. Around new cases, 44 prevention rings were set up out of 83 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 7,861 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 1,500 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 9 Oct 2026), 938 in Ituri and 470 in Haut-Uélé. Since the previous bulletin, 121 more in Ituri, over 12 days and 71 more in Haut-Uélé. At control points on roads and at borders, 277,065 travellers passed through and 97.8 % had a temperature check.

05 The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, 38 patients are in critical condition, 10 patients in Mandima have no meals and Mandima, which accounts for 32% of new cases, has no psychological support. In Nord-Kivu, 160 of the 165 beds for suspected cases are occupied, 112 patients are being treated outside treatment centres, only 3 of 15 households were decontaminated and 9 of 32 health workers assessed were exposed to high risk. In Haut-Uélé, one checkpoint did not send its report for lack of network and some treatment centres lack water, electricity and food. In Tshopo, 20 health workers are among the 63 confirmed cases, only 2 of 104 health facilities score above 80% on infection prevention. In Bas-Uélé, the vaccine stock has run out, the staff of one checkpoint resigned after two months without pay and 16 of 20 priority facilities have no patient triage.
