02 Where

The other 4 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 41 of these 59 cases: Mandima 11, Beni 11, Bunia 7, Nizi 7 and Katwa 5. 48 of the 64 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 16 reported none.

03 Deaths

Of the 37 deaths reported today, 26 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 11 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 14 in Ituri, 11 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 4 in Ituri, 4 in Nord-Kivu, 2 in Haut-Uélé and 1 in Tshopo.

04 The response

3,197 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 3,197 were checked and 506 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. 80.0 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres hold 62 patients per 100 beds: 970 patients for 1,578 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 519 patients for 374 beds. Around new cases, 56 prevention rings were set up out of 72 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 7,182 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 1,412 in Bas-Uélé and 817 in Ituri (figure of 30 Sep 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 79 more in Bas-Uélé, over two days. At control points on roads and at borders, 251,836 travellers passed through and 96.4 % had a temperature check.

05 The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, several treatment centres are short of space, 31 patients are in critical condition, 12 patients in Mandima have no meals and vaccination of frontline workers is still waiting for Ervebo vaccine. In Nord-Kivu, 146 of the 165 beds for suspected cases are occupied, 156 patients are being treated outside treatment centres and 1,821 travellers refused screening. In Haut-Uélé, patient-care data are inconsistent, the Boma Mangbetu centre has no hearse and weaned infants lack nutrition kits in Wamba and Isiro. In Tshopo, 12 of 29 ambulance workers are demotivated, only 2 of 103 health facilities score above 80% on infection prevention and travellers refuse screening, claiming that “the water contains the virus”. In Sud-Kivu, only 5 of the 9 expected reports come in from checkpoints. In Bas-Uélé, the treatment centre is still under construction, there is no ambulance, only 19 of 41 checkpoints are working and vaccination is still waiting for its funds.
