Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 31 Aug 2026, published 1 Sep 2026, reports 86 new confirmed cases and 57 deaths. 86 cases is above the seven-day average of 75.7 a day. No new health zone since 28 Aug 2026: the outbreak remains in 60 zones across 6 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 6,186 confirmed cases and 3,007 deaths: 48.6% of patients have died. 1,409 people have recovered. 26 more than the day before. 830 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 75.7 cases and 41.7 deaths a day, against 78.7 cases and 42.1 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 49 of the 86 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 32 and Haut-Uélé with 5. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 53 of these 86 cases: Katwa 14, Mangala 11, Bunia 10, Komanda 9 and Butembo 9. 51 of the 60 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 9 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 57 deaths reported today, 43 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 14 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 21 in Ituri, 21 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 10 in Ituri, 2 in Nord-Kivu and 2 in Haut-Uélé. The 10 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 329 deaths before them.
04The response
2,445 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 2,056 were checked and 454 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 506 samples tested in the laboratory, 86 were positive, that is 17.0 %. 88.0 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres are 67.9 % full: 830 patients for 1,223 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 283 patients for 220 beds. Around new cases, 16 prevention rings were set up out of 30 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 142 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 122 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Aug 2026) and 20 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 26 Aug 2026).
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, prevention rings are set up around 53.3% of new cases, for lack of teams in Fataki, Mangala and Nizi; 20 patients refused to be hospitalised, 9 bodies could not be tested because families objected; the Bambu and Nizi centres and the Kigonze and Lolwa transit centres are full; three control points are closed by a strike of unpaid staff and 2 patients ran away in Rwampara and Nizi, including a detainee left unguarded. In Nord-Kivu, 4 homes disinfected out of 14, some centres hold more patients than they have beds, officials refuse to follow the health rules at control points and the road to the Bundji cemetery remains unsafe. In Haut-Uélé, three control points did not send their figures, the Magambe point records many refusals of the temperature check and hand-washing, and 10 of 24 health areas are listed as hostile. In Sud-Kivu, no place to isolate a patient at the Kavimvira, Kalundu and Baraka entry points. In Tshopo, 17 of 30 control points are working, 41% of the expected reports were sent, and no psychological support worker is present in Wanie-Rukula and Bafwasende.
