Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 15 Aug 2026, published 16 Aug 2026, reports 101 new confirmed cases and 53 deaths. 101 cases is in line with the seven-day average of 93.0 a day. There is 3 new zones affected: Gethy (Ituri), Makiso--Kisangani (Tshopo) and Nia-Nia (Ituri); the outbreak now affects 55 zones in 6 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 4,945 confirmed cases and 2,325 deaths: 47.0% of patients have died. 1,040 people have recovered. 34 more than the day before. 730 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 93.0 cases and 52.1 deaths a day, against 78.0 cases and 43.3 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 89 of the 101 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 8, Haut-Uélé with 3 and Tshopo with 1. The other 2 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 82 of these 101 cases: Bunia 41, Mangala 15, Rwampara 11, Nizi 10 and Katwa 5. 47 of the 55 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 8 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 53 deaths reported today, 33 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 20 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 30 in Ituri and 3 in Nord-Kivu. Those in a treatment centre: 17 in Ituri and 3 in Nord-Kivu. The 17 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 113 deaths before them.
04The response
1,730 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,575 were checked and 380 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Tshopo did not send its figures. Of 427 samples tested in the laboratory, — were positive, that is —. This share reaches 30.9 % in Ituri. 85.3 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Haut-Uélé. Ebola treatment centres are 60.0 % full: 726 patients for 1,209 beds.
05The difficulties encountered
In Nord-Kivu, beds for suspected cases are 100% full and suspected cases from Butembo, Masereka, Vuhovi and Kalunguta are isolated in facilities that are not transit centres; 2,187 travellers refused the temperature check, 14 community incidents remain unresolved in Musienene, and a rumour circulates in Katwa about tablets “infected” with Ebola. In Ituri, the Bambu, Fataki and Nizi centres are saturated, 2 ambulances are broken down, 21 prevention rings were opened out of 171 expected and 70 sites disinfected out of 171, because of the disinfection teams’ strike, insecurity, refusals and addresses that could not be found; refusals of safe burial recur in Mungamba and psychosocial support covers only 4 zones out of 14. In Haut-Uélé, a strike by unpaid staff left six control points without reports, a body was taken back by the community in Tuluba, refusals of safe burial are reported in N’sele and Tuluba, hygiene kits are lacking everywhere, there is still no treatment centre up to standard and 10 ambulances are missing. In Tshopo, 35% of control points are active, the Kisangani treatment centre has only 12 beds, and three health facilities have hygiene scores below 13%.
