Bulletin No. 115Situation as of 6 Sep 2026
Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 6 Sep 2026, published 7 Sep 2026, reports 82 new confirmed cases and 51 deaths. 82 cases is in line with the seven-day average of 83.7 a day. No new health zone since 4 Sep 2026: the outbreak remains in 61 zones across 6 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 6,686 confirmed cases and 3,226 deaths: 48.3% of patients have died. 1,563 people have recovered. 15 more than the day before. 819 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 83.7 cases and 39.4 deaths a day, against 73.7 cases and 38.6 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 39 of the 82 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 39 and Haut-Uélé with 4. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 43 of these 82 cases: Beni 13, Katwa 12, Nizi 7, Komanda 6 and Bambu 5. 52 of the 61 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 9 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 51 deaths reported today, 36 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 15 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 20 in Nord-Kivu and 16 in Ituri. Those in a treatment centre: 12 in Ituri, 2 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. The 12 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 366 deaths before them.
04The response
1,406 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,159 were checked and 215 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Kivu did not send its figures. Of 456 samples tested in the laboratory, 82 were positive, that is 18.0 %. 85.3 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Bas-Uélé and Tshopo. Ebola treatment centres are 60.6 % full: 819 patients for 1,351 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 262 patients for 220 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 133 deaths reported, 109 burials carried out, 101 bodies tested. Around new cases, 15 prevention rings were set up out of 69 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 1,875 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 1,375 in Tshopo (figure of 3 Sep 2026) and 500 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 5 Sep 2026). The vaccine is out of stock. At control points on roads and at borders, 252,682 travellers passed through and 98.1 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Nord-Kivu, treatment centres are at 123% of their capacity and patients are still treated in facilities not meant for Ebola. In Ituri, the centres of Nizi, Mambasa and Mandima are full on the suspected-case side, 39 patients are in critical condition, and prevention is falling behind: 15 prevention rings opened out of 69 expected, 5 bodies that could not be tested in Nia-Nia and Mandima because families objected, and too few disinfection teams in Fataki, Mangala and Komanda. At control points, four posts in Ituri (Nzebi, Galay, Pluto and Bey) are on strike for lack of pay, the Avakubi post remains closed because of insecurity, and Tshopo has activated only 18 of its 30 planned posts. In Haut-Uélé, a confirmed patient who had fled was found in Nduka and refuses to return to the treatment centre; 22 contacts were listed along her route. In Tshopo, 10 contacts refuse follow-up in Matete. In Bas-Uélé, everything is missing at once: teams to follow contacts, a treatment centre, an ambulance, and the Ervebo vaccine, out of stock in Buta, which suspends the vaccination of health workers. Control-point reports arrive at only 34.6% in Bas-Uélé, 55.5% in Sud-Kivu and 64.0% in Haut-Uélé.
