Bulletin No. 140Situation as of 1 Oct 2026
Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 1 Oct 2026, published 2 Oct 2026, reports 76 new confirmed cases and 24 deaths. 76 cases is above the seven-day average of 61.4 a day. No new health zone since 18 Sep 2026: the outbreak remains in 63 zones across 7 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 8,376 confirmed cases and 4,042 deaths: 48.3% of patients have died. 2,182 people have recovered. 20 more than the day before. 869 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 61.4 cases and 29.9 deaths a day, against 57.9 cases and 27.7 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 49 of the 76 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 23, Haut-Uélé with 3 and Tshopo with 1. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 12 of these 76 cases: Beni 6, Boma-Mangbetu 2, Nizi 2, Rungu 1 and Makiso-Kisangani 1. 45 of the 63 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 18 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 24 deaths reported today, 19 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 5 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 12 in Ituri and 7 in Nord-Kivu. Those in a treatment centre: 4 in Ituri and 1 in Nord-Kivu.
04The response
2,441 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 2,393 were checked and 514 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 452 samples tested in the laboratory, 76 were positive, that is 16.8 %. 81.3 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres are 56.5 % full: 851 patients for 1,507 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 383 patients for 354 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 62 burials carried out and 71 bodies tested. The 4 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. Around new cases, 36 prevention rings were set up out of 49 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 8,785 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 6,897 in Tshopo (figure of 28 Sep 2026), 1,071 in Bas-Uélé and 817 in Ituri (figure of 30 Sep 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 37 more in Bas-Uélé. At control points on roads and at borders, 275,103 travellers passed through and 97.9 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, 27 bodies were not sampled for lack of supplies and teams or because families refused, resistance persists in Nizi, no household, health facility or school received a kit, and only 13 affected health zones out of 28 have psychological support. In Nord-Kivu, fewer than half of homes are decontaminated (10 of 24) because of community resistance and a lack of teams and transport. In Haut-Uélé, psychosocial workers lack transport in Wamba and Boma Mangbetu and data comes through poorly. In Tshopo, health facilities lack hygiene supplies, the Makiso-Kisangani incinerator is broken and psychosocial workers need training in Wanie-Rukula and Bafwasende. In Bas-Uélé, the Triangle health centre has neither a waste area nor hygienic latrines, resistance to sampling remains strong in Bomea, and there is still no compliant treatment centre or ambulance.
