Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 14 Aug 2026, published 15 Aug 2026, reports 116 new confirmed cases and 58 deaths. 116 cases is above the seven-day average of 90.6 a day. No new health zone since 13 Aug 2026: the outbreak remains in 55 zones across 6 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 4,843 confirmed cases and 2,272 deaths: 46.9% of patients have died. 1,006 people have recovered. 30 more than the day before. 777 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 90.6 cases and 50.9 deaths a day, against 76.4 cases and 42.1 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 85 of the 116 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 19 and Haut-Uélé with 12. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 73 of these 116 cases: Mangala 19, Bunia 16, Rwampara 15, Wamba 12 and Nizi 11. 46 of the 55 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 9 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 58 deaths reported today, 38 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 20 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 31 in Ituri, 5 in Nord-Kivu and 2 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 15 in Ituri, 3 in Haut-Uélé and 2 in Nord-Kivu. The 15 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 98 deaths before them.
04The response
1,699 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,549 were checked and 403 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Bas-Uélé and Tshopo did not send its figures. 83.2 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Haut-Uélé. Ebola treatment centres are 60.2 % full: 771 patients for 1,281 beds.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, the Bambu and Fataki treatment centres are saturated, 4 ambulances are broken down, and 23 prevention rings were opened out of 115 expected, held back by a strike of disinfection teams in Nizi, insecurity in Komanda, refusals in Kilo and addresses that could not be found; in Rwampara, families refuse disinfection because “chlorinated water brings Ebola”. In Nord-Kivu, beds for suspected cases are 103% occupied, 2,035 travellers refused the temperature check, mostly in Matombo, Mukulya and Makeke, 16 community incidents remain unresolved including 14 in Musienene, and the provincial depot reports stock-outs. In Haut-Uélé, only 26.3% of control points are active, the Wamba isolation centre holds four times more patients than its capacity, there is still no treatment centre up to standard, 10 ambulances are missing, the share of patients dying in hospital reaches 82.4% in Pawa and 51% in Isiro, a refusal of safe burial is reported in Isiro, and fuel is running short. Control-point staff are unpaid in Ituri as in Nord-Kivu.
