Bulletin No. 145Situation as of 6 Oct 2026
Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 6 Oct 2026, published 7 Oct 2026, reports 63 new confirmed cases and 27 deaths. 63 cases is below the seven-day average of 72.0 a day. No new health zone since 2 Oct 2026: the outbreak remains in 64 zones across 7 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 8,728 confirmed cases and 4,205 deaths: 48.2% of patients have died. 2,269 people have recovered. 10 more than the day before. 1,066 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 72.0 cases and 31.9 deaths a day, against 57.7 cases and 29.0 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 33 of the 63 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 30. The other 5 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 27 of these 63 cases: Beni 9, Bunia 7, Mambasa 4, Nizi 4 and Mandima 3. 48 of the 64 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 16 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 27 deaths reported today, 17 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 10 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 10 in Ituri and 7 in Nord-Kivu. Those in a treatment centre: 8 in Ituri, 1 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Tshopo.
04The response
3,035 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 3,035 were checked and 494 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. 82.0 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 82 burials carried out and 75 bodies tested. The 3 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. Around new cases, 20 prevention rings were set up out of 40 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 9,126 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 6,897 in Tshopo (figure of 28 Sep 2026), 1,412 in Bas-Uélé and 817 in Ituri (figure of 30 Sep 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 79 more in Bas-Uélé.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, vaccination of frontline workers is suspended for lack of Ervebo vaccine and only 14 affected health zones out of 28 have psychological support. In Nord-Kivu, the Butuhe checkpoint has been shut since the security incident of 26 September and 1,837 travellers refused screening. In Haut-Uélé, the community opposed decontamination around a patient who died on 5 October, households lack hygiene kits and weaned infants lack nutrition kits in Wamba and Isiro. In Tshopo, the Makiso-Kisangani incinerator is still out of order and the Rekapi I and II morgues lack sampling kits and protective equipment. In Sud-Kivu, the Kavimvira, Kalundu Port and Baraka entry points have no isolation space at all. In Bas-Uélé, only 19 of 41 checkpoints are working, 2 of 3 triage points in Buta are idle for lack of staff and vaccination is still waiting for its micro-plan and its funds.
