Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 30 Sep 2026, published 30 Sep 2026, reports 76 new confirmed cases and 36 deaths. 76 cases is above the seven-day average of 58.6 a day. No new health zone since 18 Sep 2026: the outbreak remains in 63 zones across 7 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 8,300 confirmed cases and 4,018 deaths: 48.4% of patients have died. 2,162 people have recovered. 41 more than the day before. 842 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 58.6 cases and 31.3 deaths a day, against 59.3 cases and 27.7 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 43 of the 76 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 31 and Haut-Uélé with 2. The other 4 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 42 of these 76 cases: Beni 13, Bunia 11, Nia-Nia 7, Mangala 6 and Rwampara 5. 44 of the 63 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 19 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 36 deaths reported today, 28 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 8 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 17 in Nord-Kivu and 11 in Ituri. Those in a treatment centre: 6 in Ituri and 2 in Nord-Kivu.
04The response
2,688 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,556 were checked and 425 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 474 samples tested in the laboratory, 76 were positive, that is 16.0 %. 80.6 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres are 101.7 % full: 360 patients for 354 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 360 patients for 354 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 92 burials carried out and 103 bodies tested. The 45 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. Around new cases, 40 prevention rings were set up out of 64 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 8,748 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 6,897 in Tshopo (figure of 28 Sep 2026), 1,034 in Bas-Uélé and 817 in Ituri. Since the previous bulletin, 12 more in Bas-Uélé and 86 more in Ituri. At control points on roads and at borders, 264,294 travellers passed through and 97.7 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, only 23 of 41 vaccination rings have been opened, other bodies were not sampled for lack of supplies and teams or because families refused, resistance persists in Mangala and Fataki, and treatment centres lack space and food. In Haut-Uélé, none of the 9 households or 2 health facilities decontaminated received a kit, and psychosocial workers lack transport in Wamba and Boma Mangbetu. In Tshopo, health facilities lack hygiene supplies, the Makiso-Kisangani incinerator is broken and use of health services is falling. In Bas-Uélé, two health centres have neither a waste area nor hygienic latrines, and there is still no compliant treatment centre or ambulance.
