Today's figures

88 new cases, 38 deaths

The bulletin of 24 Oct 2026, published 25 Oct 2026, reports 88 new confirmed cases and 38 deaths. 88 cases is above the seven-day average of 72.7 a day. No new health zone since 16 Oct 2026: the outbreak remains in 66 zones across 8 provinces.

Since the outbreak began, 9,964 confirmed cases and 4,841 deaths: 48.6% of patients have died. 2,670 people have recovered. 24 more than the day before. 1,008 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 72.7 cases and 40.0 deaths a day, against 68.1 cases and 32.1 deaths the week before.

02 Where

Ituri accounts for 44 of the 88 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 39 and Haut-Uélé with 5. The other 5 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 52 of these 88 cases: Mandima 20, Beni 16, Bunia 6, Mabalako 5 and Mutwanga 5. 49 of the 66 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 17 reported none.

03 Deaths

Of the 38 deaths reported today, 26 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 12 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 14 in Nord-Kivu, 11 in Ituri and 1 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 6 in Ituri and 6 in Nord-Kivu.

04 The response

3,023 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 3,023 were checked and 424 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Bas-Uélé, Sud-Ubangi and Tshopo did not send their figures. Of 512 samples tested in the laboratory, 88 were positive, that is 17.2 %. 87.1 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams. Ebola treatment centres hold 60 patients per 100 beds: 958 patients for 1,583 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 495 patients for 410 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 143 deaths reported, 113 burials carried out, 121 bodies tested. Around new cases, 51 prevention rings were set up out of 62 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 9,415 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 1,660 in Bas-Uélé, 1,613 in Ituri, 600 in Nord-Kivu (figure of 20 Oct 2026) and 589 in Haut-Uélé (figure of 19 Oct 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 160 more in Bas-Uélé, over 15 days and 111 more in Ituri, over two days.

05 The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, 22 of 78 safe burials could not be carried out, families are opposing them in Bambu, Mangala, Fataki and Mandima, 15 patients in Mandima were not fed and 39% of travellers refused screening at the Nzebi checkpoint. In Nord-Kivu, beds for suspected cases are 97.9% occupied, 147 patients are being treated outside treatment centres and fewer than half of the households concerned have been decontaminated. In Haut-Uélé, only 4 of 7 health zones sent in their data, health facilities lack hygiene supplies and a 16-month-old child, a suspected case, died at the Pawa centre. In Nord-Ubangi, the second confirmed patient escaped from isolation at Wapinda hospital, and the province has neither a treatment centre nor an isolation space for suspected cases. In Bas-Uélé, 3 of 20 checkpoints did not report and both vaccines and funds remain insufficient. In Sud-Kivu, three border posts still have no isolation space.
