Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 12 Aug 2026, published 13 Aug 2026, reports 100 new confirmed cases and 53 deaths. 100 cases is above the seven-day average of 87.4 a day. There is 1 new zone affected: Buta (Bas-Uélé); the outbreak now affects 54 zones in 6 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 4,665 confirmed cases and 2,184 deaths: 46.8% of patients have died. 965 people have recovered. 634 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 87.4 cases and 47.6 deaths a day, against 77.0 cases and 40.4 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 67 of the 100 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 25, Haut-Uélé with 6, Tshopo with 1 and Bas-Uélé with 1. Sud-Kivu reports none. 5 zones carry 66 of these 100 cases: Bunia 23, Rwampara 18, Katwa 13, Nizi 7 and Nia-Nia 5. 46 of the 54 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 8 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 53 deaths reported today, 28 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 25 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 16 in Nord-Kivu, 9 in Ituri, 1 in Haut-Uélé, 1 in Tshopo and 1 in Bas-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 15 in Ituri and 10 in Nord-Kivu. The 15 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 69 deaths before them.
04The response
1,531 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,388 were checked and 328 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. 84.2 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Haut-Uélé. Ebola treatment centres are 46.7 % full: 491 patients for 1,051 beds. Around new cases, 19 prevention rings were set up out of 143 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives.
05The difficulties encountered
In Haut-Uélé, there is no treatment centre up to standard in the six affected zones, the Wamba isolation centre is overflowing and 10 ambulances are missing; in Nord-Kivu, 7 zones have no ambulance and 4 have no treatment centre; in Ituri, 3 ambulances are broken down and the Kasenyi centre did not send its figures because of a strike. Home disinfection remains partial in Ituri: 63 households disinfected for 115 confirmed cases of the day. At control points, Tshopo has activated only 7 posts out of 20, 3 posts in Haut-Uélé did not report for lack of network, and 86 travellers in Haut-Uélé and 38 in Tshopo refused the temperature check, denying the disease or fearing hand-washing water and the treatment centre; staff are unpaid and lack protective equipment. In communities, a family linked to a death in Mungbwalu left for an unknown destination, young people in Pilipili oppose safe burials and disinfection, 4 refusals of safe burial are reported in Mangiva and refusals of sampling in Tshopo. In Nord-Kivu, teams were assaulted at burial sites, and the police officers assigned to the Katwa and Kitatumba centres are not being supported.
