04The response

1,705 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,632 were checked and 348 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Kivu did not send its figures. Of 484 samples tested in the laboratory, 63 were positive, that is 13.0 %. This share reaches 18.1 % in Nord-Kivu. 89.0 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Bas-Uélé. Ebola treatment centres are 63.5 % full: 869 patients for 1,368 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 232 patients for 220 beds. Around new cases, 19 prevention rings were set up out of 45 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 142 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 122 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Aug 2026) and 20 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 26 Aug 2026).

05The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, prevention rings are set up around 42.2% of new cases; 17 patients refused to be hospitalised, 42 bodies could not be tested because families objected, and residents resist in Bambu, Mandima and Fataki; the Bambu and Nizi centres and the Kigonze and Lolwa transit centres are full; four control points are closed by a strike of unpaid staff and 2 suspected patients ran away at night from the Mangala hospital. In Nord-Kivu, 6 homes disinfected out of 21, some centres hold more patients than they have beds, and officials refuse to follow the health rules at control points. In Haut-Uélé, four control points did not send their figures and at the Magambe point 3% of travellers refuse the temperature check and 13% hand-washing. In Sud-Kivu, still no place to isolate a patient at entry points. In Tshopo, residents oppose investigations, tests and transfers to the centre, and no psychological support worker is present in Wanie-Rukula and Bafwasende.
