03Deaths

Of the 35 deaths reported today, 26 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 9 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 17 in Ituri, 8 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 4 in Ituri, 3 in Nord-Kivu and 2 in Haut-Uélé. The 4 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 442 deaths before them.

04The response

2,022 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,568 were checked and 413 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Ubangi did not send its figures. Of 409 samples tested in the laboratory, 87 were positive, that is 21.3 %. This share reaches 28.1 % in Ituri. 89.3 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Sud-Ubangi. Ebola treatment centres are 48.3 % full: 583 patients for 1,207 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 348 patients, 152.6 % full. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 118 burials carried out and 110 bodies tested. The 140 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. Around new cases, 113 prevention rings were set up out of 189 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 2,960 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 2,460 in Tshopo and 500 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 5 Sep 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 153 more in Tshopo. At control points on roads and at borders, 260,546 travellers passed through and 98.1 % had a temperature check.

05The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, six treatment centres remain full on the suspected-case side, only 21 prevention rings out of 57 are open and the disinfection teams in Nizi are on strike over unpaid wages. In Nord-Kivu, 45% of patients are treated outside a centre, no bed is left in Butembo or Katwa, and five zones have no active disinfection team. In Tshopo, 18 control posts out of 30 are active, the patient who fled the centre is still at home and the incinerator is still broken. In Haut-Uélé, no communication material is left. In Bas-Uélé, still no treatment centre and no ambulance, and health workers in the five priority zones are not trained in infection prevention.
