Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 19 Sep 2026, published 20 Sep 2026, reports 58 new confirmed cases and 23 deaths. 58 cases is below the seven-day average of 67.4 a day. No new health zone since 18 Sep 2026: the outbreak remains in 63 zones across 7 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 7,672 confirmed cases and 3,699 deaths: 48.2% of patients have died. 1,879 people have recovered. 15 more than the day before. 886 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 67.4 cases and 32.0 deaths a day, against 85.1 cases and 42.9 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 38 of the 58 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 14, Haut-Uélé with 5 and Tshopo with 1. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 30 of these 58 cases: Bunia 8, Mongbwalu 7, Bambu 6, Nizi 5 and Nia-Nia 4. 49 of the 63 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 14 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 23 deaths reported today, 13 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 10 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 9 in Ituri and 4 in Nord-Kivu. Those in a treatment centre: 6 in Ituri, 3 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Tshopo. The 6 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 487 deaths before them.
04The response
2,399 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 2,132 were checked and 427 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Ubangi did not send its figures. Of 292 samples tested in the laboratory, 58 were positive, that is 19.9 %. This share reaches 25.2 % in Ituri. 79.9 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Haut-Uélé. Ebola treatment centres are 62.7 % full: 886 patients for 1,412 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 376 patients for 228 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 81 burials carried out and 68 bodies tested. The 101 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. 12 bodies could not be tested because families objected. Vaccination: 4,563 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 3,576 in Tshopo and 987 in Bas-Uélé. Since the previous bulletin, 207 more in Tshopo and 279 more in Bas-Uélé, over two days. At control points on roads and at borders, 265,594 travellers passed through and 96.6 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, six treatment centres remain full on the suspected-case side, the Avakubi control point still cannot open for lack of security, and only 13 zones out of 28 report their data. In Nord-Kivu, 42% of patients are treated outside the planned facilities, no bed is free in Butembo or Katwa, and five zones still have no decontamination team. In Tshopo, fewer than a third of the targeted health workers are vaccinated — 11% in Lubunga — and 424 thawed doses expire on 24 September; the incinerator at the Makiso-Kisangani hospital is still out of order. In Bas-Uélé, still no treatment centre and no ambulance, and roads that cannot be used.
