04 The response
3,244 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 3,241 were checked and 474 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Ubangi did not send its figures. Of 500 samples tested in the laboratory, 97 were positive, that is 19.4 %. This share reaches 25.0 % in Haut-Uélé. 76.9 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Ituri. Ebola treatment centres hold 104 patients per 100 beds: 466 patients for 446 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 450 patients for 410 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 58 deaths reported, 106 burials carried out, 106 bodies tested. Around new cases, 26 prevention rings were set up out of 42 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 8,353 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 1,500 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 9 Oct 2026), 1,120 in Ituri (figure of 15 Oct 2026), 588 in Haut-Uélé (figure of 16 Oct 2026) and 192 in Nord-Kivu (figure of 17 Oct 2026).
05 The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, 59 patients are in critical condition, blood is short for treatment centres and hospitals, only 14 of 28 affected health zones have psychosocial support and the Avakubi checkpoint is not working because of insecurity. In Nord-Kivu, decontamination teams were assaulted in the Beni zone, 93.8% of beds for suspected cases are occupied, 91 of 450 hospitalised patients are being treated outside treatment centres and 40 safe and dignified burials have been postponed to the next day. In Haut-Uélé, two checkpoints did not send their data. In Tshopo, 7 patients have been lost to follow-up, 6 of them confirmed cases from Bafwasende, the Bafwasende centre has no food support and infection prevention supplies are lacking. In Bas-Uélé, the Buta treatment centre is still under construction, there is no ambulance, 16 of 20 priority health facilities have no patient triage and staff at an Isiro checkpoint are on strike because they have not been paid.
