Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 30 Aug 2026, published 31 Aug 2026, reports 59 new confirmed cases and 39 deaths. 59 cases is below the seven-day average of 73.7 a day. No new health zone since 28 Aug 2026: the outbreak remains in 60 zones across 6 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 6,100 confirmed cases and 2,950 deaths: 48.4% of patients have died. 1,383 people have recovered. 17 more than the day before. 814 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 73.7 cases and 38.6 deaths a day, against 80.4 cases and 43.1 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 44 of the 59 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 8, Haut-Uélé with 6 and Bas-Uélé with 1. The other 2 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 35 of these 59 cases: Mangala 10, Nizi 10, Bunia 5, Pawa 5 and Rwampara 5. 50 of the 60 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 10 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 39 deaths reported today, 19 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 20 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 12 in Ituri, 5 in Nord-Kivu, 1 in Haut-Uélé and 1 in Bas-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 15 in Ituri, 2 in Nord-Kivu, 2 in Haut-Uélé and 1 in Tshopo. The 15 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 314 deaths before them.
04The response
1,628 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,541 were checked and 258 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Kivu did not send its figures. Of 530 samples tested in the laboratory, 59 were positive, that is 11.1 %. 86.3 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Bas-Uélé and Haut-Uélé. Ebola treatment centres are 66.5 % full: 813 patients for 1,223 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 282 patients for 220 beds. Around new cases, 18 prevention rings were set up out of 41 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 142 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 122 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Aug 2026) and 20 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 26 Aug 2026).
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, prevention rings are set up around 47% of new cases and 78.3% of the homes to disinfect were done; 20 patients refused to be hospitalised, 9 bodies could not be tested because families objected, and residents resist in Bambu, Fataki and Mandima; the Bambu and Nizi centres and the Kigonze and Lolwa transit centres are full. In Nord-Kivu, 4 homes disinfected out of 14, no figures from psychological support, and a road to the Bundji cemetery still impassable. In Haut-Uélé, no centre up to standard in Isiro and Wamba, six control points did not send their figures, the Doko point does not operate at weekends, families object during burials and 10 of 24 health areas are listed as hostile. In Bas-Uélé, neither a centre up to standard nor a partner organisation for care. In Tshopo, no centre up to standard in Bafwasende, the Kisangani incinerator broken, and only 76.8% of travellers informed at control points.
