Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 21 Sep 2026, published 22 Sep 2026, reports 40 new confirmed cases and 27 deaths. 40 cases is below the seven-day average of 61.1 a day. No new health zone since 18 Sep 2026: the outbreak remains in 63 zones across 7 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 7,773 confirmed cases and 3,759 deaths: 48.4% of patients have died. 1,935 people have recovered. 33 more than the day before. 839 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 61.1 cases and 30.6 deaths a day, against 84.0 cases and 39.7 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 19 of the 40 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 13, Haut-Uélé with 5 and Tshopo with 3. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 24 of these 40 cases: Beni 8, Nizi 5, Bunia 4, Mangala 4 and Wamba 3. 49 of the 63 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 14 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 27 deaths reported today, 14 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 13 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 8 in Nord-Kivu, 4 in Ituri, 1 in Haut-Uélé and 1 in Tshopo. Those in a treatment centre: 11 in Ituri and 2 in Nord-Kivu.
04The response
1,898 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,872 were checked and 359 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Ubangi did not send its figures. Of 384 samples tested in the laboratory, 40 were positive, that is 10.4 %. This share reaches 18.5 % in Haut-Uélé. 84.5 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres are 55.7 % full: 831 patients for 1,492 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 338 patients for 308 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 152 deaths reported, 135 burials carried out, 122 bodies tested. Around new cases, 104 prevention rings were set up out of 144 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 4,648 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 3,774 in Tshopo and 874 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 20 Sep 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 198 more in Tshopo, over two days.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, six treatment centres remain full on the suspected-case side, the Avakubi control point still cannot open for lack of security, and only 9 zones out of 28 report their data. In Nord-Kivu, 34% of patients are treated outside the planned facilities, no bed is free in Butembo or Katwa, a control point was vandalised at Mususa, and field teams have gone unpaid for more than four months. In Tshopo, fewer than a third of the targeted health workers are vaccinated and 226 thawed doses expire on 24 September; the incinerator at the Makiso-Kisangani hospital is still out of order. In Bas-Uélé, still no treatment centre and no ambulance, and roads that cannot be used.
