Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 25 Sep 2026, published 26 Sep 2026, reports 43 new confirmed cases and 19 deaths. 43 cases is below the seven-day average of 53.6 a day. No new health zone since 18 Sep 2026: the outbreak remains in 63 zones across 7 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 7,989 confirmed cases and 3,852 deaths: 48.2% of patients have died. 2,033 people have recovered. 32 more than the day before. 828 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 53.6 cases and 25.1 deaths a day, against 71.6 cases and 34.1 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 31 of the 43 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 9 and Haut-Uélé with 3. The other 4 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 26 of these 43 cases: Mandima 9, Beni 5, Bambu 4, Mangala 4 and Rwampara 4. 45 of the 63 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 18 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 19 deaths reported today, 10 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 9 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 5 in Ituri, 4 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 5 in Ituri, 3 in Haut-Uélé and 1 in Nord-Kivu.
04The response
1,924 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,892 were checked and 321 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 474 samples tested in the laboratory, 43 were positive, that is 9.1 %. 77.8 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres are 39.4 % full: 454 patients for 1,153 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 58 deaths reported, 55 burials carried out, 54 bodies tested. Around new cases, 26 prevention rings were set up out of 38 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 5,724 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,628 in Tshopo, 1,000 in Bas-Uélé and 96 in Ituri (figure of 23 Sep 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 570 more in Tshopo, over two days and 126 more in Bas-Uélé, over five days. At control points on roads and at borders, 260,971 travellers passed through and 97.2 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, six treatment centres are full on the suspected-case side, one control point is shut down by insecurity and nearly one traveller in two refuses health screening at another (46%). In Nord-Kivu, nearly one hospitalised patient in three (31.2%) is treated outside the planned facilities, no bed is free in Butembo or Katwa, barely one home in three has been decontaminated (14 of 40), and vaccination of health workers has still not started. In Haut-Uélé, medicines are in severe short supply in four zones, only three zones out of seven send in their reports, and both the hospital and the treatment centre in Wamba have no water. In Tshopo, the vaccine has run out entirely despite strong demand, coverage is stuck at 39.5% and there is still no safe blood. In Bas-Uélé, only 7.6% of the target group is vaccinated, three zones are still waiting for their doses, and there is no treatment centre and no ambulance.
