Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 29 Aug 2026, published 30 Aug 2026, reports 96 new confirmed cases and 49 deaths. 96 cases is above the seven-day average of 75.3 a day. No new health zone since 28 Aug 2026: the outbreak remains in 60 zones across 6 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 6,041 confirmed cases and 2,911 deaths: 48.2% of patients have died. 1,366 people have recovered. 39 more than the day before. 619 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 75.3 cases and 38.4 deaths a day, against 81.3 cases and 45.3 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 61 of the 96 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 28 and Haut-Uélé with 7. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 55 of these 96 cases: Bunia 17, Katwa 12, Mangala 9, Nia-Nia 9 and Lita 8. 51 of the 60 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 9 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 49 deaths reported today, 41 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 8 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 28 in Ituri and 13 in Nord-Kivu. Those in a treatment centre: 7 in Ituri and 1 in Haut-Uélé. The 7 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 307 deaths before them.
04The response
1,830 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,416 were checked and 320 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 537 samples tested in the laboratory, 96 were positive, that is 17.9 %. 82.4 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Bas-Uélé, Haut-Uélé and Tshopo. Ebola treatment centres are 53.8 % full: 604 patients for 1,123 beds. Around new cases, 33 prevention rings were set up out of 45 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 142 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 122 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Aug 2026) and 20 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 26 Aug 2026). At control points on roads and at borders, 264,693 travellers passed through and 97.5 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, prevention rings are set up around 73.3% of new cases and 81.3% of the homes to disinfect were done, but the Bambu and Nizi centres are full and teams are still lacking in Fataki, Mangala and Nizi; the Avakubi, Mabakese and Apinaka control points did not send their figures. In Nord-Kivu, only 4 rings were set up and 9 homes disinfected out of 17. In Haut-Uélé, the Isiro and Wamba centres lack room, three health workers refused to be tested and 3 patients ran away in Isiro. In Bas-Uélé, still no treatment centre up to standard and no partner organisation for care, and control points sent only 45% of their reports. In Tshopo, 7 of 20 control points are working.
