Those in a treatment centre: 21 in Ituri and 3 in Nord-Kivu. The 21 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 387 deaths before them.
04The response
2,140 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,389 were checked and 408 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 507 samples tested in the laboratory, 86 were positive, that is 17.0 %. 86.5 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Bas-Uélé. Ebola treatment centres are 59.8 % full: 814 patients for 1,362 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 287 patients for 220 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 117 deaths reported, 106 burials carried out, 93 bodies tested. Around new cases, 42 prevention rings were set up out of 89 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 2,082 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 1,582 in Tshopo and 500 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 5 Sep 2026). At control points on roads and at borders, 253,819 travellers passed through and 97.6 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, the treatment centres of Nizi, Mambasa, Lolwa, Kilo, Mangala and Mandima are full on the suspected-case side and 30 patients are in critical condition; 15 prevention rings were opened out of 59 expected, disinfection teams are lacking in Fataki, Mangala and Komanda, transport in Bambu and Mandima, supplies in Mangala and Mandima, and refusals of safe burial are reported in Bunia, Nizi, Nia-Nia and Aru; the Avakubi control point remains closed because of insecurity. In Nord-Kivu, 13 homes were disinfected out of 47 identified, teams still need training in Biena, Masereka, Kyondo, Mabalako and Vuhovi, a confirmed patient fled in Masereka and a family in Munzambaye, in the Butembo zone, refuses the disinfection of its home. In Tshopo, teams were attacked in Bethsaïda, in the Mangobo zone, amid rumours of “Ebola business”, 11 contacts refuse follow-up in Matete, safe blood is lacking, the incinerator of the Makiso-Kisangani hospital is broken, vaccination received only 3,000 doses out of 11,000 requested, and 18 control posts out of 30 are active. In Haut-Uélé, the Pawa centre lacks hygiene facilities and the Isiro centre lacks space, water and electricity; in Tely, a family still refuses to be counted, and a rumour says patients are locked up under the tents of the Isiro hospital. In Bas-Uélé, still no treatment centre or ambulance, too few teams to follow contacts, and the Ervebo vaccine remains out of stock in Buta.
