04 The response

3,104 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 3,104 were checked and 451 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Ubangi and Nord-Ubangi did not send its figures. Of 545 samples tested in the laboratory, 51 were positive, that is 9.4 %. This share reaches 19.0 % in Haut-Uélé. 89.1 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres hold 62 patients per 100 beds: 1,024 patients for 1,645 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 477 patients for 410 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 61 deaths reported, 111 burials carried out, 60 bodies tested. Around new cases, 42 prevention rings were set up out of 70 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 9,144 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 1,502 in Ituri, 1,500 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 9 Oct 2026), 600 in Nord-Kivu (figure of 20 Oct 2026) and 589 in Haut-Uélé (figure of 19 Oct 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 191 more in Ituri. At control points on roads and at borders, 305,816 travellers passed through and 98.0 % had a temperature check.

05 The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, blood is in short supply, 20 patients in Mandima were not fed, 18 of the 37 most recent confirmed cases are still waiting for psychosocial support and 3 serious adverse events after vaccination have been reported. In Nord-Kivu, beds for suspected cases are 84.9% occupied, 138 of 477 patients are being treated outside treatment centres, mortality inside those centres remains high and 6 health zones have no ambulance. In Haut-Uélé, vaccination has stopped because a generator breakdown in Isiro keeps the cold chain from running, 2 safe burials failed in the face of residents' resistance and the Pawa ambulance is out of service. In Tshopo, a household is refusing the investigation around case no. 54 and only 6 of 106 health facilities score above 80% on hygiene. In Bas-Uélé, no safe burial was carried out, 2 attempts to swab bodies failed in Ganga, 17 of 20 priority facilities lack water and both vaccines and funds remain insufficient.
