Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 13 Aug 2026, published 14 Aug 2026, reports 62 new confirmed cases and 30 deaths. 62 cases is below the seven-day average of 86.7 a day. There is 1 new zone affected: Tshopo (Tshopo); the outbreak now affects 55 zones in 6 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 4,727 confirmed cases and 2,214 deaths: 46.8% of patients have died. 976 people have recovered. 11 more than the day before. 749 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 86.7 cases and 46.7 deaths a day, against 73.6 cases and 42.9 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 41 of the 62 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 16, Haut-Uélé with 4 and Tshopo with 1. The other 2 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 38 of these 62 cases: Katwa 12, Bambu 11, Bunia 5, Nia-Nia 5 and Rwampara 5. 46 of the 55 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 9 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 30 deaths reported today, 14 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 16 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 9 in Nord-Kivu and 5 in Ituri. Those in a treatment centre: 14 in Ituri and 2 in Haut-Uélé. The 14 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 84 deaths before them.
04The response
1,679 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,630 were checked and 330 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Bas-Uélé and Tshopo did not send its figures. 82.6 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Haut-Uélé. Ebola treatment centres are 57.6 % full: 735 patients for 1,275 beds. Around new cases, 23 prevention rings were set up out of 167 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, the Bambu and Nizi treatment centres are saturated, at 186% and 200% of their capacity for confirmed cases, 3 ambulances are broken down, and prevention is stalling: 19 prevention rings opened out of 163 expected and 59 sites disinfected out of 73, because of a strike by disinfection teams and insecurity in some villages; refusals of safe burial are reported in Rwampara, Nia-Nia, Tchomia, Komanda, Mambasa, Aru and Mandima. In Nord-Kivu, 2,139 travellers refused the temperature check at control points, 11 community incidents remain unresolved in Musienene, and protective equipment is lacking. In Haut-Uélé, still no treatment centre up to standard in the six affected zones, the Wamba isolation centre is overflowing, 10 ambulances are missing, 465 travellers refused the temperature check, mostly in Aungba and Magambe, all control points lack water and equipment, and posters exist only in French and Swahili. In Tshopo, only 7 control posts out of 20 are working.
