Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 28 Sep 2026, published 29 Sep 2026, reports 55 new confirmed cases and 30 deaths. 55 cases is in line with the seven-day average of 56.9 a day. No new health zone since 18 Sep 2026: the outbreak remains in 63 zones across 7 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 8,171 confirmed cases and 3,954 deaths: 48.4% of patients have died. 2,105 people have recovered. 17 more than the day before. 759 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 56.9 cases and 27.9 deaths a day, against 61.1 cases and 30.6 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 36 of the 55 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 12, Haut-Uélé with 5 and Tshopo with 2. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 33 of these 55 cases: Mandima 11, Bunia 9, Beni 6, Mangala 4 and Nizi 3. 44 of the 63 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 19 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 30 deaths reported today, 17 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 13 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 9 in Ituri, 7 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 11 in Ituri, 1 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé.
04The response
2,621 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 2,539 were checked and 420 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 380 samples tested in the laboratory, 55 were positive, that is 14.5 %. This share reaches 20.0 % in Haut-Uélé. 82.0 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres are 103.4 % full: 366 patients for 354 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 366 patients for 354 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 98 burials carried out and 62 bodies tested. The 56 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. Around new cases, 36 prevention rings were set up out of 64 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 8,518 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 6,897 in Tshopo, 1,019 in Bas-Uélé and 602 in Ituri. Since the previous bulletin, 1,944 more in Tshopo, 19 more in Bas-Uélé and 66 more in Ituri.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, some treatment centres lack space, patients' meals remain insufficient, 19 bodies were not sampled and activities are suspended in Nizi because of insecurity. In Nord-Kivu, only one home in four has been decontaminated (7 of 27) and none of them received a kit. In Haut-Uélé, reporting is incomplete (4 zones out of 7) and two vaccination rings could not be opened in Pawa because of community tensions. In Tshopo, the vaccine has run out despite strong demand, only 2 health facilities out of 99 meet hygiene standards and the Makiso-Kisangani incinerator is broken. In Bas-Uélé, there is still no compliant treatment centre and no ambulance, and 2 triage points out of 3 are not working in Buta.
