Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 25 Aug 2026, published 26 Aug 2026, reports 57 new confirmed cases and 29 deaths. 57 cases is below the seven-day average of 72.1 a day. No new health zone since 24 Aug 2026: the outbreak remains in 58 zones across 6 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 5,713 confirmed cases and 2,744 deaths: 48.0% of patients have died. 1,269 people have recovered. 24 more than the day before. 770 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 72.1 cases and 38.3 deaths a day, against 91.7 cases and 49.7 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 34 of the 57 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 18 and Haut-Uélé with 5. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 36 of these 57 cases: Bambu 9, Katwa 9, Nia-Nia 6, Nizi 6 and Butembo 6. 49 of the 58 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 9 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 29 deaths reported today, 11 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 18 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 9 in Nord-Kivu and 2 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 14 in Ituri, 2 in Nord-Kivu and 2 in Haut-Uélé. The 14 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 266 deaths before them.
04The response
2,371 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 2,174 were checked and 390 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Haut-Uélé did not send its figures. Of 430 samples tested in the laboratory, 57 were positive, that is 13.3 %. 84.6 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Bas-Uélé. Ebola treatment centres are 58.4 % full: 761 patients for 1,304 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 123 deaths reported, 116 burials carried out, 107 bodies tested. Around new cases, 21 prevention rings were set up out of 101 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, prevention rings are set up around only 20.8% of new cases and tests on bodies fail; the Bambu and Kilo centres are full; residents refuse to be tested in Nia-Nia and Alimasi, and to give their contacts in Kilo État. In Nord-Kivu, 163 suspected patients for 142 beds. In Haut-Uélé, the Wamba centre overflows on the suspected-patient side, teams were assaulted in Isiro and Pawa, five control points remain on strike, and psychological support reaches only 2 of the 6 affected zones. In Bas-Uélé, contact follow-up lacks teams, the home of Buta's first patient is still not disinfected and control points sent only 35% of their reports. A body intercepted at the Mangina control point (Komanda) could not be tested because of insecurity.
