04The response

2,254 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,846 were checked and 429 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Kivu and Sud-Ubangi did not send its figures. Of 673 samples tested in the laboratory, 80 were positive, that is 11.9 %. This share reaches 31.6 % in Nord-Kivu. 87.6 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Tshopo. Ebola treatment centres are 43.4 % full: 508 patients for 1,170 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 311 patients, 141.4 % full. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 158 deaths reported, 126 burials carried out, 105 bodies tested. Around new cases, 59 prevention rings were set up out of 119 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 2,506 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 2,006 in Tshopo and 500 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 5 Sep 2026). At control points on roads and at borders, 180,107 travellers passed through and 98.1 % had a temperature check.

05The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, six treatment centres remain full on the suspected-case side, 25 prevention rings out of 83 are open, 14 bodies could not be tested for lack of means, refusals of safe burial persist in four zones and the staff of five control posts are on strike over unpaid wages. Contact follow-up is below the threshold in 3 provinces out of 5. In Nord-Kivu, 10 homes out of 27 have been disinfected and teams still need training in five zones. In Tshopo, a confirmed patient who fled the treatment centre is still at home, the Makiso-Kisangani incinerator is broken and vaccination received only 4,500 doses out of 11,000 requested. In Haut-Uélé, communication staff have not been paid for two months. In Bas-Uélé, still no treatment centre or ambulance, and the Ervebo vaccine is lacking in Buta.
