02 Where
Ituri accounts for 41 of the 68 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 25 and Haut-Uélé with 2. The other 4 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 43 of these 68 cases: Mambasa 15, Bunia 11, Beni 11, Komanda 3 and Nizi 3. 49 of the 65 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 16 reported none.
03 Deaths
Of the 31 deaths reported today, 20 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 11 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 10 in Nord-Kivu, 8 in Ituri and 2 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 6 in Ituri and 5 in Nord-Kivu.
04 The response
3,140 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 3,080 were checked and 513 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 394 samples tested in the laboratory, 68 were positive, that is 17.3 %. 81.8 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres hold 91 patients per 100 beds: 529 patients for 579 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 468 patients for 374 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 124 burials carried out and 139 bodies tested. The 39 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. Around new cases, 29 prevention rings were set up out of 75 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 7,930 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 1,500 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 9 Oct 2026), 1,007 in Ituri and 470 in Haut-Uélé (figure of 12 Oct 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 69 more in Ituri. At control points on roads and at borders, 289,038 travellers passed through and 98.2 % had a temperature check.
05 The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, 30 patients are in critical condition, 10 patients in Mandima have no meals, the Avakubi checkpoint remains closed because of insecurity and September salaries are still unpaid. In Nord-Kivu, 164 of the 165 beds for suspected cases are occupied, 140 patients are being treated outside treatment centres, only 8 of 19 households were decontaminated and 27 of 49 health workers assessed were exposed to high risk; 2 have been infected. In Haut-Uélé, some treatment centres lack water, electricity and food, and weaned infants in Wamba and Isiro have no nutrition kits. In Tshopo, the treatment centre lacks resuscitation equipment and only 85 of 270 staff are trained in preventing sexual abuse. In Bas-Uélé, the vaccine stock is at zero, vaccination coverage remains at 11.4%, 16 of 20 priority facilities have no patient triage and Dakwa hospital runs with 13 of 36 staff.
