Bulletin No. 124Situation as of 15 Sep 2026
Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 15 Sep 2026, published 16 Sep 2026, reports 59 new confirmed cases and 32 deaths. 59 cases is below the seven-day average of 80.1 a day. No new health zone since 10 Sep 2026: the outbreak remains in 62 zones across 7 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 7,404 confirmed cases and 3,577 deaths: 48.3% of patients have died. 1,776 people have recovered. 23 more than the day before. 930 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 80.1 cases and 38.1 deaths a day, against 84.7 cases and 38.7 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 35 of the 59 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 21, Bas-Uélé with 2 and Tshopo with 1. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 34 of these 59 cases: Beni 10, Bunia 8, Mangala 7, Nizi 5 and Mongbwalu 4. 48 of the 62 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 14 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 32 deaths reported today, 16 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 16 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 8 in Ituri, 7 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Bas-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 10 in Ituri and 6 in Nord-Kivu. The 10 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 446 deaths before them.
04The response
2,590 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,963 were checked and 423 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 362 samples tested in the laboratory, 59 were positive, that is 16.3 %. 87.4 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Bas-Uélé and Sud-Ubangi. Ebola treatment centres are 64.0 % full: 919 patients for 1,435 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 373 patients for 228 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 132 burials carried out and 124 bodies tested. The 148 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. 10 bodies could not be tested because families objected. Around new cases, 49 prevention rings were set up out of 80 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 3,044 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 2,544 in Tshopo and 500 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 5 Sep 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 84 more in Tshopo. At control points on roads and at borders, 275,520 travellers passed through and 98.1 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, 26 prevention rings out of 42 are open, ten bodies could not be tested in Fataki and Mandima, for lack of means or because families refused, and resistance is reported in Rwampara. In Nord-Kivu, 42% of patients are treated outside the planned facilities, no bed is left in Butembo or Katwa, and five zones still have no disinfection. In Tshopo, the patient who fled the centre is still at home and the incinerator is still broken. In Haut-Uélé, four control points did not report for lack of connection. In Bas-Uélé, 14 control points out of 41 are working, without trained staff, and there is no treatment centre and no ambulance.
