04 The response
3,149 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 3,059 were checked and 473 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Ubangi did not send its figures. Of 431 samples tested in the laboratory, 69 were positive, that is 16.0 %. This share reaches 21.6 % in Ituri. 83.1 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres hold 60 patients per 100 beds: 854 patients for 1,425 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 523 patients for 374 beds. Around new cases, 48 prevention rings were set up out of 80 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 7,370 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 1,500 in Bas-Uélé, 817 in Ituri (figure of 30 Sep 2026) and 100 in Haut-Uélé. Since the previous bulletin, 88 more in Bas-Uélé, over two days. At control points on roads and at borders, 247,706 travellers passed through and 97.9 % had a temperature check.
05 The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, 26 refusals of safe burials were recorded, 42 patients are in critical condition, the Avakubi and Zunguluka checkpoints are shut because of insecurity and vaccination of health workers is still waiting for Ervebo vaccine. In Nord-Kivu, 158 of the 165 beds for suspected cases are occupied, 148 patients are being treated outside treatment centres and 4 of 6 health workers assessed in Butembo were exposed to high risk. In Haut-Uélé, 2 confirmed patients fled the Pawa centre, only 1 of 15 health facilities triages patients properly and 180 km separate Wamba from Bolebole for decontamination around cases. In Tshopo, 317 travellers refused screening and 12 of 29 ambulance workers are demotivated. In Sud-Kivu, only 5 of the 9 expected reports come in from checkpoints. In Bas-Uélé, 16 of 20 health facilities have no working triage, the newly affected Dakwa zone urgently needs infection-prevention supplies and only 19 of 41 checkpoints are working.
