Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 12 Sep 2026, published 13 Sep 2026, reports 87 new confirmed cases and 38 deaths. 87 cases is in line with the seven-day average of 85.1 a day. No new health zone since 10 Sep 2026: the outbreak remains in 62 zones across 7 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 7,200 confirmed cases and 3,475 deaths: 48.3% of patients have died. 1,712 people have recovered. 20 more than the day before. 923 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 85.1 cases and 42.9 deaths a day, against 80.4 cases and 37.7 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 44 of the 87 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 37, Haut-Uélé with 3 and Tshopo with 3. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 50 of these 87 cases: Bunia 14, Beni 14, Katwa 10, Rwampara 6 and Butembo 6. 49 of the 62 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 13 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 38 deaths reported today, 28 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 10 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 20 in Ituri and 8 in Nord-Kivu. Those in a treatment centre: 6 in Ituri and 4 in Nord-Kivu. The 6 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 430 deaths before them.
04The response
1,978 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,801 were checked and 445 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Ubangi did not send its figures. Of 436 samples tested in the laboratory, 87 were positive, that is 20.0 %. 91.3 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Haut-Uélé. Ebola treatment centres are 47.6 % full: 574 patients for 1,205 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 342 patients, 150.0 % full. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 97 deaths reported, 134 burials carried out, 125 bodies tested. Around new cases, 65 prevention rings were set up out of 121 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 2,653 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 2,153 in Tshopo (figure of 11 Sep 2026) and 500 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 5 Sep 2026). At control points on roads and at borders, 260,928 travellers passed through and 97.9 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, six treatment centres remain full on the suspected-case side, 28 prevention rings out of 66 are open, families refuse safe burials in Nizi, Bambu, Komanda, Mambasa and Rwampara, and the Nzebi control post is on strike over unpaid wages. Contact follow-up is slipping in Haut-Uélé, where five control posts did not report for lack of network. In Nord-Kivu, the centres are overflowing (150% occupancy), 10 homes out of 66 have been disinfected, communication teams have gone unpaid for more than three months and community incidents, sometimes violent, are reported. In Tshopo, a community health worker was threatened for reporting a death, the patient who fled the centre is still at home and the incinerator is still broken. In Bas-Uélé, still no treatment centre and no ambulance, and the Ervebo vaccine is out of stock in Buta.
