02 Where
Nord-Kivu accounts for 29 of the 60 new cases. Then Ituri with 28, Haut-Uélé with 2 and Tshopo with 1. The other 4 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 42 of these 60 cases: Mandima 15, Beni 10, Bunia 8, Mabalako 5 and Oicha 4. 50 of the 66 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 16 reported none.
03 Deaths
Of the 46 deaths reported today, 31 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 15 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 17 in Nord-Kivu, 13 in Ituri and 1 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 9 in Ituri, 4 in Nord-Kivu and 2 in Haut-Uélé.
04 The response
4,068 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 3,427 were checked and 549 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Ubangi and Nord-Ubangi did not send their figures. Of 450 samples tested in the laboratory, 60 were positive, that is 13.3 %. 88.4 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams. Ebola treatment centres hold 56 patients per 100 beds: 900 patients for 1,619 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 447 patients for 410 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 114 burials carried out and 117 bodies tested. The 154 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. Around new cases, 53 prevention rings were set up out of 80 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 9,415 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 1,660 in Bas-Uélé, 1,613 in Ituri, 600 in Nord-Kivu (figure of 20 Oct 2026) and 589 in Haut-Uélé (figure of 19 Oct 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 160 more in Bas-Uélé, over 14 days and 111 more in Ituri. At control points on roads and at borders, 317,301 travellers passed through and 98.0 % had a temperature check.
05 The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, blood is in short supply, 11 patients in Mandima were not fed, at the Biakato Mines centre bodies are decontaminated in the same room as living patients and 5 serious adverse events after vaccination have been reported. In Nord-Kivu, beds for suspected cases are 91.7% occupied, 107 of 447 patients are being treated outside treatment centres and the Butuhe checkpoint remains closed since a security incident. In Haut-Uélé, a confirmed patient escaped from the Boma Mangbetu centre, 5 confirmed patients remain at home along the Bolebole road and vaccination has stopped. In Tshopo, a nurse at the Météo centre has been infected, 4 confirmed patients still refuse hospitalisation and only 7 of 107 health facilities score above 80% on hygiene. In Bas-Uélé, isolated suspected cases receive no food support, one of them ran away, and both vaccines and funds remain insufficient. In Sud-Kivu, three border posts have no isolation space.
