Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 5 Oct 2026, published 6 Oct 2026, reports 62 new confirmed cases and 30 deaths. 62 cases is below the seven-day average of 70.6 a day. No new health zone since 2 Oct 2026: the outbreak remains in 64 zones across 7 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 8,665 confirmed cases and 4,178 deaths: 48.2% of patients have died. 2,259 people have recovered. 24 more than the day before. 890 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 70.6 cases and 32.0 deaths a day, against 56.9 cases and 27.9 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 30 of the 62 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 26, Haut-Uélé with 5 and Tshopo with 1. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 41 of these 62 cases: Mandima 19, Beni 7, Katwa 6, Mabalako 5 and Bunia 4. 48 of the 64 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 16 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 30 deaths reported today, 20 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 10 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 15 in Ituri and 5 in Nord-Kivu. Those in a treatment centre: 6 in Ituri, 3 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé.
04The response
3,093 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 3,093 were checked and 498 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. 80.4 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres are 54.9 % full: 861 patients for 1,569 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 417 patients for 365 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 105 burials carried out and 112 bodies tested. The 2 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. Around new cases, 65 prevention rings were set up out of 103 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 9,047 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 6,897 in Tshopo (figure of 28 Sep 2026), 1,333 in Bas-Uélé and 817 in Ituri (figure of 30 Sep 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 53 more in Bas-Uélé. At control points on roads and at borders, 265,528 travellers passed through and 96.6 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, the treatment centres of Mambasa, Kilo, Mangala, Mandima, Sota and Lolwa lack capacity, 37 patients are in critical condition, 33 patients receive no food support, only 14 affected health zones out of 28 have psychological support and 4% of travellers are not screened at entry points. In Haut-Uélé, 159 travellers refused screening, amid rumours that the water and thermometers carry the virus, and weaned infants lack nutrition kits in Wamba and Isiro. In Tshopo, 5 bodies were not sampled, the Makiso-Kisangani incinerator is out of order, 12 of 29 ambulance drivers are demotivated and two health zones supplied with vaccines have not started vaccinating. In Bas-Uélé, there is still neither a compliant treatment centre nor an ambulance, only 19 of 41 checkpoints are working and vaccination is waiting for its micro-plan, its funds and a repaired vehicle.
