01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 8,603 confirmed cases and 4,148 deaths: 48.2% of patients have died. 2,235 people have recovered. 5 more than the day before. 896 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 69.6 cases and 32.0 deaths a day, against 54.7 cases and 27.4 deaths the week before.
02Where
Nord-Kivu accounts for 33 of the 59 new cases. Then Ituri with 23, Haut-Uélé with 2 and Tshopo with 1. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 39 of these 59 cases: Bunia 10, Musienene 10, Beni 8, Katwa 6 and Butembo 5. 46 of the 64 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 18 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 34 deaths reported today, 23 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 11 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 12 in Ituri, 10 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 4 in Ituri, 3 in Nord-Kivu, 3 in Haut-Uélé and 1 in Tshopo.
04The response
1,955 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,955 were checked and 256 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. 79.7 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres are 54.7 % full: 824 patients for 1,507 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 382 patients for 354 beds. Around new cases, 32 prevention rings were set up out of 57 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 8,994 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 6,897 in Tshopo (figure of 28 Sep 2026), 1,280 in Bas-Uélé and 817 in Ituri (figure of 30 Sep 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 133 more in Bas-Uélé, over two days. At control points on roads and at borders, 234,857 travellers passed through and 96.8 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, the treatment centres of Mambasa, Kilo, Mangala, Mandima and Lolwa lack capacity, 40 patients receive no food support (Lolwa 19, Mambasa 14, Mandima 7), only 14 affected health zones out of 28 have psychological support, none in Mandima, and the vaccination target still has to be redefined, which prevents a reliable coverage rate from being calculated. In Nord-Kivu, only 12 of 25 vaccination rings have been opened, 14 of 40 households are decontaminated (35%), the Butuhe checkpoint has not worked since the security incident of 26 September and 2.4% of travellers refuse screening. In Tshopo, 5 bodies were not sampled, the Makiso-Kisangani incinerator is out of order, beds are lacking at the experimental treatment centre and 12 of 29 ambulance drivers are demotivated. In Bas-Uélé, there is still neither a compliant treatment centre nor an ambulance, vaccination is waiting for its micro-plan and funds, and the reporting of community-death alerts is weak and late.
