Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 27 Sep 2026, published 28 Sep 2026, reports 49 new confirmed cases and 23 deaths. 49 cases is below the seven-day average of 54.7 a day. No new health zone since 18 Sep 2026: the outbreak remains in 63 zones across 7 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 8,116 confirmed cases and 3,924 deaths: 48.3% of patients have died. 2,088 people have recovered. 18 more than the day before. 817 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 54.7 cases and 27.4 deaths a day, against 67.9 cases and 31.7 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 27 of the 49 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 18 and Haut-Uélé with 4. The other 4 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 32 of these 49 cases: Nia-Nia 9, Bunia 8, Beni 8, Katwa 4 and Pawa 3. 44 of the 63 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 19 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 23 deaths reported today, 18 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 5 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 10 in Ituri, 7 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 4 in Ituri and 1 in Nord-Kivu.
04The response
1,812 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,775 were checked and 283 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 270 samples tested in the laboratory, 49 were positive, that is 18.1 %. 75.9 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres are 51.8 % full: 781 patients for 1,507 beds. Around new cases, 53 prevention rings were set up out of 73 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 6,489 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo, 1,000 in Bas-Uélé and 536 in Ituri. Since the previous bulletin, 325 more in Tshopo, over two days, 126 more in Bas-Uélé, over seven days and 100 more in Ituri.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, some treatment centres lack space, patients' meals are not assured, 19 bodies were not sampled and only 47.8% of health facilities have been decontaminated. In Nord-Kivu, seven patients in ten are suspected cases (243 of 345), which strains the isolation beds, and only one home in three has been decontaminated (6 of 21). In Haut-Uélé, admissions outrun discharges (14 against 6), prevention data comes through poorly and teams lack transport and computer equipment. In Tshopo, the vaccine has run out in three zones, coverage remains low in Lubunga (16.6%) and Mangobo (23.4%), and only 2 health facilities out of 99 meet hygiene standards. In Bas-Uélé, there is still no compliant treatment centre and no ambulance, but the vaccine cold chain is now in service.
