Those in a treatment centre: 7 in Ituri, 1 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. The 7 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 354 deaths before them.

04The response

2,144 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,955 were checked and 399 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 575 samples tested in the laboratory, 86 were positive, that is 15.0 %. 86.0 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Bas-Uélé, Haut-Uélé and Tshopo. Ebola treatment centres are 59.4 % full: 817 patients for 1,376 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 237 patients for 220 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 124 deaths reported, 105 burials carried out, 96 bodies tested. Around new cases, 12 prevention rings were set up out of 41 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 1,861 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 1,375 in Tshopo (figure of 3 Sep 2026) and 486 in Bas-Uélé. At control points on roads and at borders, 267,016 travellers passed through and 98.1 % had a temperature check.

05The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, prevention rings are set up around only 29% of new cases (12 of 41), teams are lacking in Fataki, Mangala and Nizi; 21 patients refused to be hospitalised, 7 bodies could not be tested because families objected; the treatment centre of the CME hospital in Bunia is full for confirmed patients, those of Nizi, Lita, Mambasa and Logo for suspected patients, and the extension of Nizi and Bambu is delayed. In Nord-Kivu, patients are treated in facilities not meant for Ebola; a confirmed patient ran away in Katwa, another in Lubero refuses to go to the transit centre, and residents threaten to burn the centre under construction in Katwa. In Bas-Uélé, no prevention ring set up, neither a centre up to standard nor an ambulance, the waste-treatment area of the Buta hospital does not work, the Ganga and Viadana hospitals do not sort patients at the entrance, vaccination teams have no vehicle and six zones have no plan to vaccinate health workers; control points did not send their figures. In Tshopo, residents' opposition and untraceable addresses prevent prevention rings around the last three patients, blood for transfusions is still lacking, 12 of 30 control points are working and three zones have no psychological support worker. Contact follow-up lacks teams.
