04 The response

Ebola treatment centres hold 60 patients per 100 beds: 851 patients for 1,425 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 501 patients for 374 beds. Around new cases, 51 prevention rings were set up out of 78 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Since the previous bulletin, 299 more in Haut-Uélé. At control points on roads and at borders, 252,382 travellers passed through and 98.0 % had a temperature check.
05 The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, 23 refusals of safe burials were recorded, decontamination rings around cases are only 59.5% open, 33 patients are in critical condition and the Avakubi and Zunguluka checkpoints remain shut because of insecurity. In Nord-Kivu, 158 of the 165 beds for suspected cases are occupied, 148 patients are being treated outside treatment centres, only 17 of 43 households were decontaminated and 14 of 77 health workers assessed were exposed to high risk. In Haut-Uélé, 2 confirmed patients fled the Pawa centre, the Boma Mangbetu centre has no hearse and nutrition kits are lacking for weaned infants in Wamba and Isiro. In Tshopo, 2.2% of travellers refused screening and 12 of 29 ambulance workers are demotivated. In Bas-Uélé, the treatment centre is still under construction, no ambulance is available, only 19 of 41 checkpoints are working and vaccination funds have still not been released.
