Those in a treatment centre: 12 in Ituri, 2 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. The 12 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 285 deaths before them.

04The response

2,033 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,755 were checked and 400 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 498 samples tested in the laboratory, 69 were positive, that is 13.9 %. 87.3 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Bas-Uélé. Ebola treatment centres are 62.9 % full: 754 patients for 1,198 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 232 patients for 220 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 150 deaths reported, 127 burials carried out, 118 bodies tested. Around new cases, 28 prevention rings were set up out of 74 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 142 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 122 in Tshopo and 20 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 26 Aug 2026).

05The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, prevention rings are set up around 51.9% of new cases, disinfection teams are lacking in Fataki and Mangala, the Bambu centre and the Kigonze transit centre are full; residents refuse to be tested in Nia-Nia and Alimasi, 48 contacts could not be listed in Kilo État, and no psychological support is offered in Bambu, Nia-Nia, Mambasa and Lolwa. In Nord-Kivu, still no home of a confirmed patient disinfected, suspected patients kept outside the centres, the murder of a community leader in Mangothe (Beni) and a road to the Bundji cemetery still impassable. In Haut-Uélé, three control points did not send their figures, travellers refuse the temperature check and hand-washing, and a body intercepted at Magambe was released without a test. In Tshopo, the treatment centre has only 14 beds, the Kisangani incinerator is broken and residents still oppose investigations and transfers to the centre. Contact follow-up remains weak in Bas-Uélé.
