04 The response

1,722 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,722 were checked and 270 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Ituri and Sud-Ubangi did not send its figures. 83.5 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres hold 60 patients per 100 beds: 924 patients for 1,538 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 523 patients for 354 beds. Around new cases, 24 prevention rings were set up out of 48 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 7,270 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 1,500 in Bas-Uélé and 817 in Ituri (figure of 30 Sep 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 88 more in Bas-Uélé. At control points on roads and at borders, 262,474 travellers passed through and 98.0 % had a temperature check.

05 The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, only 52.2% of the decontamination perimeters around cases have been opened, families refuse safe burials, 30 patients are in critical condition and 24 patients in Mandima have no meals. In Nord-Kivu, 159 of the 165 beds for suspected cases are occupied, 149 patients are being treated outside treatment centres and only 14 of 40 households have been decontaminated. In Haut-Uélé, 2 confirmed patients fled the Pawa centre, patient-care data are inconsistent and teams lack transport. In Tshopo, 12 of 29 ambulance workers are demotivated and 263 travellers refused screening, some claiming that “the disease does not exist”. In Sud-Kivu, only 5 of the 9 expected reports come in from checkpoints. In Bas-Uélé, the treatment centre is still under construction, none of the 11 entry points has been reinforced and vaccination is still waiting for its micro-plan and its funds.
