Bulletin No. 111Situation as of 2 Sep 2026
Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 2 Sep 2026, published 3 Sep 2026, reports 92 new confirmed cases and 33 deaths. 92 cases is above the seven-day average of 78.3 a day. No new health zone since 28 Aug 2026: the outbreak remains in 60 zones across 6 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 6,342 confirmed cases and 3,072 deaths: 48.4% of patients have died. 1,475 people have recovered. 36 more than the day before. 770 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 78.3 cases and 40.9 deaths a day, against 72.0 cases and 38.6 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 60 of the 92 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 25, Haut-Uélé with 5 and Tshopo with 2. The other 2 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 60 of these 92 cases: Bunia 31, Mangala 8, Katwa 8, Rwampara 7 and Butembo 6. 51 of the 60 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 9 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 33 deaths reported today, 24 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 9 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 12 in Ituri, 11 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 6 in Ituri, 2 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. The 6 in Ituri have not yet been assigned to a specific health zone, like 345 deaths before them.
04The response
2,610 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 2,585 were checked and 433 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 408 samples tested in the laboratory, 92 were positive, that is 22.5 %. 86.5 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, above the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Bas-Uélé and Tshopo. Ebola treatment centres are 56.4 % full: 758 patients for 1,343 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 261 patients for 220 beds. Around new cases, 18 prevention rings were set up out of 55 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 142 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 122 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Aug 2026) and 20 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 26 Aug 2026).
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, prevention rings are set up around one new case in three (18 of 55); 21 patients refused to be hospitalised, 11 bodies could not be tested because families objected, and residents resist in Rwampara, Nyankunde, Bunia, Tchomia, Lita, Mangala and Kilo; the Nizi centre is full and eight control points are closed by a strike of unpaid staff. In Nord-Kivu, centres hold 118.6% of their capacity and patients are treated in facilities not meant for Ebola; 14 homes disinfected out of 35. In Bas-Uélé, no prevention ring set up, no home disinfected, five zones whose health workers are not trained in hygiene, neither a treatment centre up to standard nor an ambulance, and control points lack vehicles, connectivity and water. In Haut-Uélé, four control points did not send their figures and 12% of travellers refuse hand-washing at Magambe. In Tshopo, no centre up to standard in Bafwasende, no blood bags left for transfusions, and residents still oppose investigations and transfers.
