88 new cases, 45 deaths
The bulletin of 11 Oct 2026, published 13 Oct 2026, reports 88 new confirmed cases and 45 deaths. 88 cases is above the seven-day average of 66.0 a day. No new health zone since 8 Oct 2026: the outbreak remains in 65 zones across 7 provinces.
Since the outbreak began, 9,065 confirmed cases and 4,381 deaths: 48.3% of patients have died. 2,389 people have recovered. 33 more than the day before. 895 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 66.0 cases and 33.3 deaths a day, against 69.6 cases and 32.0 deaths the week before.
02 Where
Ituri accounts for 56 of the 88 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 28 and Haut-Uélé with 4. The other 4 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 63 of these 88 cases: Bunia 20, Mandima 18, Beni 16, Katwa 5 and Lita 4. 50 of the 65 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 15 reported none.
03 Deaths
Of the 45 deaths reported today, 37 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 8 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 22 in Ituri and 15 in Nord-Kivu. Those in a treatment centre: 3 in Ituri, 3 in Haut-Uélé and 2 in Nord-Kivu.
04 The response
2,503 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 2,503 were checked and 334 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. 79.5 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Ebola treatment centres hold 118 patients per 100 beds: 486 patients for 410 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 471 patients for 374 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 120 burials carried out and 116 bodies tested. The 54 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. Around new cases, 31 prevention rings were set up out of 54 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 7,669 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 1,500 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 9 Oct 2026), 817 in Ituri (figure of 30 Sep 2026) and 399 in Haut-Uélé. Since the previous bulletin, 299 more in Haut-Uélé, over two days. At control points on roads and at borders, 241,651 travellers passed through and 97.9 % had a temperature check.
05 The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, 41 patients are in critical condition, decontamination rings around cases are only 36.4% open, 8 refusals of safe burials were recorded in Mandima and 4 of 5 suspected cases intercepted at checkpoints refused transfer. In Nord-Kivu, 157 of the 165 beds for suspected cases are occupied, 107 patients are being treated outside treatment centres and only 14 of 30 households were decontaminated. In Haut-Uélé, 3 of 10 checkpoints did not send their report for lack of connection, infection prevention kits are lacking and some treatment centres lack water, electricity and food. In Tshopo, only 2 of 104 health facilities score above 80% on infection prevention and the treatment centre lacks resuscitation equipment. In Bas-Uélé, the Buta treatment centre is still under construction, no ambulance is available, only 19 of 41 notification sites are working and the Dakwa hospital runs with 13 of 36 staff.
