Summary of the INSP bulletin, with each new release
The bulletin of 26 Sep 2026, published 27 Sep 2026, reports 78 new confirmed cases and 49 deaths. 78 cases is above the seven-day average of 56.4 a day. No new health zone since 18 Sep 2026: the outbreak remains in 63 zones across 7 provinces.
01The toll
Since the outbreak began, 8,067 confirmed cases and 3,901 deaths: 48.4% of patients have died. 2,070 people have recovered. 37 more than the day before. 773 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 56.4 cases and 28.9 deaths a day, against 67.4 cases and 32.0 deaths the week before.
02Where
Ituri accounts for 57 of the 78 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 17, Haut-Uélé with 3 and Bas-Uélé with 1. The other 3 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 52 of these 78 cases: Mandima 25, Rwampara 8, Nia-Nia 7, Nizi 6 and Beni 6. 45 of the 63 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 18 reported none.
03Deaths
Of the 49 deaths reported today, 34 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 15 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 27 in Ituri, 4 in Nord-Kivu and 3 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 13 in Ituri, 1 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé.
04The response
2,340 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 2,084 were checked and 355 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Of 422 samples tested in the laboratory, 78 were positive, that is 18.5 %. This share reaches 26.9 % in Ituri. 74.7 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams, below the 85% threshold the INSP has set itself. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Ituri and Tshopo. Ebola treatment centres are 51.0 % full: 768 patients for 1,507 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 35 burials carried out and 45 bodies tested. The 40 deaths reported do not come from the same provinces: not all of them publish these figures, and the three numbers are not comparable. Around new cases, 21 prevention rings were set up out of 25 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 6,389 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo, 1,000 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 25 Sep 2026) and 436 in Ituri. Since the previous bulletin, 325 more in Tshopo and 340 more in Ituri, over three days. At control points on roads and at borders, 245,383 travellers passed through and 97.4 % had a temperature check.
05The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, four treatment centres lack space, 18 patients have no guaranteed meals, one body was not sampled at a control point and another point remains shut by insecurity. In Nord-Kivu, armed men killed a worker screening travellers at a control point in Kalunguta; one hospitalised patient in three (105 of 328) is treated outside the treatment centres, 39% of patients die in them, only one home in three has been decontaminated (7 of 22), and health workers are still not vaccinated. In Haut-Uélé, no vaccination data is being sent. In Tshopo, the vaccine has run out in three zones with 47 doses left, coverage stands at 42.3%, only 2 health facilities out of 99 meet hygiene standards and the Kisangani hospital incinerator is broken. In Bas-Uélé, there is still no compliant treatment centre and no ambulance, and antenatal visits are falling (58% in August).
