02 Where

The other 5 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 67 of these 96 cases: Beni 35, Mandima 11, Bunia 8, Oicha 8 and Kabondo 5. 49 of the 66 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 17 reported none.

04 The response
1,839 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 1,839 were checked and 249 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Ituri and Nord-Ubangi did not send their figures. Of 479 samples tested in the laboratory, 96 were positive, that is 20.1 %. This share reaches 30.7 % in Nord-Kivu. 81.6 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams. Ebola treatment centres hold 38 patients per 100 beds: 447 patients for 1,173 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 3 deaths reported, 4 burials carried out, 5 bodies tested. Vaccination: 9,415 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 1,660 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 24 Oct 2026), 1,613 in Ituri (figure of 24 Oct 2026), 600 in Nord-Kivu (figure of 20 Oct 2026) and 589 in Haut-Uélé (figure of 19 Oct 2026). At control points on roads and at borders, 286,879 travellers passed through and 98.0 % had a temperature check. The posts notified 5 alerts, 3 of them in Ituri, and intercepted 1 corpse.
05 The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, 2 suspected cases at the Biakato May post could not be transferred for lack of an ambulance, the Avakubi post is still not working because of insecurity, 4,028 travellers refused screening and the blood received remains insufficient. In Nord-Kivu, the Butuhe post has been closed since the security incident of 26 September and only 3 of 34 health zones know the mechanism for reporting sexual abuse. In Haut-Uélé, only 4 of 7 health zones sent in their data, health facilities lack hygiene supplies, some staff are demotivated and water and power are lacking in some treatment centres. In Bas-Uélé, 17 of 20 priority facilities lack water, only 130 of 632 health workers are trained in hygiene and vaccination remains almost nil in Bili (0 of 1,067). In Sud-Ubangi, no health worker is trained in infection prevention and hygiene supplies are lacking. In Tshopo, assaults and threats against response teams led to the killing of a nurse by local people in Bafwasende, whose health zone could not send in its data, and a contact of case no. 76, already ill, is refusing transfer to the treatment centre. Only 56% of checkpoint reports came in from Tshopo and Sud-Kivu.
