04 The response

4,203 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 4,203 were checked and 581 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Nord-Ubangi did not send its figures. Of 383 samples tested in the laboratory, 81 were positive, that is 21.4 %. 84.5 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Tshopo. Ebola treatment centres hold 66 patients per 100 beds: 962 patients for 1,461 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 536 patients for 410 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 192 deaths reported, 106 burials carried out, 97 bodies tested. Vaccination: 9,490 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 1,735 in Bas-Uélé, 1,613 in Ituri (figure of 24 Oct 2026), 600 in Nord-Kivu (figure of 20 Oct 2026) and 589 in Haut-Uélé (figure of 19 Oct 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 75 more in Bas-Uélé, over two days. At control points on roads and at borders, 324,330 travellers passed through and 98.0 % had a temperature check. The posts notified 18 alerts and intercepted 0 corpses.

05 The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, 4 suspected cases could not be transferred from the Mandima and Nizi checkpoints, for lack of an ambulance or because of refusals, the Avakubi post is still not working because of insecurity and safe burials are meeting resistance in Bambu, Mangala and Mandima. In Nord-Kivu, treatment centres are almost full (90.2%), 163 patients are being treated outside them and hygiene around patients remains inadequate in Katwa and Beni. In Tshopo, assaults on teams are preventing the follow-up of 502 contacts, 2 confirmed patients escaped in Bafwasende and 7 of 10 bodies were not sampled. In Bas-Uélé, 17 of 20 priority facilities lack water and vaccination remains almost nil in Bili (0 of 1,067). In Haut-Uélé, the phone network remains weak and nutritional supplies are lacking.
