04 The response
2,790 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 2,773 were checked and 413 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Ubangi and Nord-Ubangi did not send their figures. Of 430 samples tested in the laboratory, 77 were positive, that is 17.9 %. This share reaches 26.2 % in Nord-Kivu. 84.5 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Tshopo. Ebola treatment centres hold 68 patients per 100 beds: 987 patients for 1,461 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 546 patients for 410 beds. Safe burials, carried out by protected teams to avoid contagion: 133 deaths reported, 101 burials carried out, 94 bodies tested. Around new cases, 47 prevention rings were set up out of 59 expected, that is the disinfection of the home and the follow-up of relatives. Vaccination: 10,130 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 2,081 in Ituri, 1,907 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 28 Oct 2026), 600 in Nord-Kivu (figure of 20 Oct 2026) and 589 in Haut-Uélé (figure of 19 Oct 2026). The posts notified 4 alerts, 2 of them in Ituri, and intercepted 1 corpse.
05 The difficulties encountered
In Ituri, blood is still lacking, 40 patients are in critical condition and 11 patients were not fed in Mandima. In Nord-Kivu, treatment centres are almost full (87.3%), 188 patients are being treated outside them and checkpoint staff on the Butembo road remain under threat; the Butuhe checkpoint has been closed since 26 September. In Tshopo, violence against response teams continues, 2 patients who escaped in Bafwasende are still missing and a confirmed case in Rekapi refuses transfer to a treatment centre. In Haut-Uélé, teams on the Bolebole road, between Pawa and Wamba, are still threatened and an ambulance is lacking there. In Bas-Uélé, the strike has brought Buta, Ganga and Viadana to a standstill, vaccines are short and none of the 38 isolated suspected cases receives food support.
