Today's figures

53 new cases, 45 deaths

The bulletin of 31 Oct 2026, published 1 Nov 2026, reports 53 new confirmed cases and 45 deaths. 53 cases is below the seven-day average of 71.9 a day. No new health zone since 28 Oct 2026: the outbreak remains in 67 zones across 8 provinces.

Since the outbreak began, 10,467 confirmed cases and 5,103 deaths: 48.8% of patients have died. 2,824 people have recovered. 21 more than the day before. Ituri has reversed the previous day's data harmonisation: the 314 deaths added then leave the total, and its cases return to their earlier spread across its zones, with no change to its total. On the site's charts, these 314 deaths therefore no longer appear as a catch-up on the previous day: each day shows only its own deaths. 980 patients are hospitalised in Ebola treatment centres. Over the past seven days, an average of 71.9 cases and 37.4 deaths a day, against 72.7 cases and 40.0 deaths the week before.

02 Where

Ituri accounts for 32 of the 53 new cases. Then Nord-Kivu with 18 and Haut-Uélé with 3. The other 5 provinces report none. 5 zones carry 37 of these 53 cases: Beni 13, Mandima 9, Bunia 8, Mambasa 5 and Lita 2. 46 of the 67 affected health zones reported at least one new case in the past three weeks; 21 reported none.

03 Deaths

Of the 45 deaths reported today, 26 occurred in the community, that is outside a treatment centre, and 19 in a treatment centre. Deaths outside a centre: 13 in Ituri, 12 in Nord-Kivu and 1 in Haut-Uélé. Those in a treatment centre: 15 in Ituri and 4 in Nord-Kivu.

04 The response

3,246 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 3,210 were checked and 506 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Sud-Ubangi and Nord-Ubangi did not send their figures. Of 421 samples tested in the laboratory, 53 were positive, that is 12.6 %. 86.6 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Tshopo. Ebola treatment centres hold 57 patients per 100 beds: 930 patients for 1,623 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 501 patients for 410 beds. Vaccination: 10,933 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 2,448 in Ituri, 1,943 in Bas-Uélé (figure of 30 Oct 2026), 1,000 in Nord-Kivu and 589 in Haut-Uélé (figure of 19 Oct 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 233 more in Ituri and 200 more in Nord-Kivu. At control points on roads and at borders, 272,771 travellers passed through and 98.0 % had a temperature check. The posts notified 8 alerts, 4 of them in Ituri, and intercepted 4 corpses.

05 The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, blood is still lacking, 39 patients are in critical condition, September salaries have not been paid at checkpoints and the Kasenyi treatment centre sent no data because of a health workers' strike. In Nord-Kivu, treatment centres are almost full (87%), 143 patients are being treated outside them and the Butuhe checkpoint remains closed since the incident of 26 September. In Tshopo, part of the Bafwasende treatment centre was set on fire by young people and 2 patients who escaped are still missing. In Haut-Uélé, a family prevented a safe burial in Isiro and hygiene supplies are lacking in health facilities. In Bas-Uélé, staff at two checkpoints are threatening to strike over unpaid wages and none of the 50 isolated suspected cases receives food support. In Sud-Kivu, none of the 3 bodies intercepted at border posts was sampled.
