04 The response

2,758 reports of possible patients ("alerts") were received; 2,755 were checked and 342 retained as suspected cases, to be tested. Nord-Ubangi did not send its figures. Of 464 samples tested in the laboratory, 65 were positive, that is 14.0 %. This share reaches 20.0 % in Haut-Uélé. 84.0 % of the people who had been close to a patient (the "contacts") were seen by follow-up teams. Fewer than three contacts in four were seen in the following provinces: Tshopo. Ebola treatment centres hold 62 patients per 100 beds: 910 patients for 1,475 beds. Beyond capacity: Nord-Kivu, 541 patients for 424 beds. Vaccination: 11,153 people have received the Ervebo vaccine since the campaign began on 26 Aug 2026: 4,953 in Tshopo (figure of 27 Sep 2026), 2,448 in Ituri, 1,972 in Bas-Uélé, 1,191 in Nord-Kivu and 589 in Haut-Uélé (figure of 19 Oct 2026). Since the previous bulletin, 29 more in Bas-Uélé, over two days and 191 more in Nord-Kivu. At control points on roads and at borders, 255,806 travellers passed through and 97.0 % had a temperature check. The posts notified 5 alerts and intercepted 0 corpses.

05 The difficulties encountered

In Ituri, shots fired by unknown people stopped all screening at the Iga Barrière checkpoint (Nizi), blood is still lacking, 32 patients are in critical condition and the Kasenyi treatment centre sent no data because of a health workers' strike. In Nord-Kivu, treatment centres are almost full (85%), 179 patients are being treated outside them and the Butuhe checkpoint remains closed since the incident of 26 September. In Tshopo, the response remains suspended in the Bafwasende zone, where a building of the treatment centre was set on fire, and 2 patients who escaped are still missing. In Haut-Uélé, 5 checkpoints sent nothing for lack of network coverage and the Magambe checkpoint is at a standstill because of a strike. In Bas-Uélé, only 10 of 22 checkpoints sent their data, because of the strike and for lack of network coverage, none of the 51 isolated suspected cases receives food support and the Bili zone still has no one vaccinated. In Sud-Kivu, three border posts have no isolation space.
